Student support and benefits
Students can apply for financial aid for classroom studies or support themselves with unemployment benefits. The majority of on-the-job training consists of paid internships. We also support our students financially by offering free lunch and accommodation during classroom studies.
Study grant
Students are eligible for financial aid (Kela.fi) from Kela for classroom studies. Student financial aid includes a study grant and housing supplement. Additional information on possibilities for studying on unemployment benefits (Työmarkkinatori.fi) is available from the TE Centre.
Paid on-the-job training periods
The course includes three on-the-job training periods, the last two of which are salaried. Students sign an employment contract with the Criminal Sanctions Agency for the last two periods.
Free accommodation or commute allowance
During classroom training periods we try to offer those traveling from far away (more than 100 km) the opportunity to stay for free in the conference hotel.
The conference hotel rooms are double rooms. They are equipped with two beds, a table and chairs, a wardrobe, a small refrigerator, flat-screen TV and a toilet with a shower. Bedlinen is also provided by the school. Staying in the conference hotel during classroom training is a communal experience during which our students become acquainted with their future colleagues.
Alternatively, students commuting from outside the area can apply for a school transport subsidy (Kela.fi) for daily commuting between their home and the educational institution.
Meals
On classroom days, the training centre offers students a free lunch in the restaurant (Bistroliekki.fi) next to the training centre. During the on-the-jop periods, you can buy a paid staff lunch at the workplace.
Slice digital student card
Our students also use Finland's largest student benefits service Slice (Slice.fi, in Finnish) , with which you can get thousands of student benefits from different fields all over Finland e.g. in several cafes, sports services and supermarkets.
Recreation
Students are free to use the training centre's gym. The Tikkurila are also features several sports halls, cinema and other recreation opportunities (Vantaa.fi).
The training centre is located close to the busy Tikkurila railway station, offering convenient travel in the Capital Region and beyond.
Health care
The City of Vantaa is obliged to arrange health care for our students during classroom training periods. First aid in the event of illness or accident is available from the Tikkurila health centre (Vantaa.fi). In the evenings and on the weekends, emergency health care is provided by Peijas Hospital.
If your matter does not require urgent treatment or a doctor, you can contact the school health nurse during your studies: Terhi Pihlaja, terhi.pihlaja(at)vakehyva.fi, tel. 050 3124390. The reception is in Tikkurila at Virnatie 5, 3rd floor mon-thurs 8am-4pm and fri 8am-2pm.
Students have a fixed-term employment contract with the Criminal Sanctions Agency during on-the-job training, giving them access to the Criminal Sanctions Agency's occupational health care.
